Trillium in concert:#338;A special performance by Trillium will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Palatine Public Library.
The five-member band performs an energetic array of Celtic, folk, ragtime, bluegrass and Dixieland music, using instruments including the hammered dulcimer, banjo, guitar, bass, fiddle, and mandolin.
The concert is suitable for the entire family. Light refreshments will be served.
Monday Matinee:#338;At noon Monday, "West Side Story" will be the Monday Matinee at the Palatine Public Library.
Bring lunch and a friend, the library will supply the movie, beverages and dessert.
Mother/Daughter Book Club:#338;At 7 p.m. Monday, the Mother/Daughter Book Club discusses "Louisiana Sky" by Kimberly Willis Holt.
The book discussion group is open to girls in fourth through sixth grade and their mothers.

Faces and Places of India:#338;At 7 p.m. Jan. 15, join the Palatine Public Library for the third and final program of the 2007-2008 Asian Cultural Series.
Join Bill Helmuth to explore hidden India, including: Mumbai (Bombay), New Delhi, the Taj Mahal, Hyderabad, and the religions of India.

Fun with pasta:#338;At 4 p.m. Jan. 17, join the Palatine Public Library for stories of Italy's favorite noodle, pasta.
Attendees will make a craft out of pasta to take home. This new program is for children in first through third grade.

Clutter buster:#338;At 7 p.m. Jan. 17, join Brian Redding for an informational lecture on clutter.
Clutter doesn't come from being lazy, disorganized, or messy -- it simply comes from four habits. Work on any one of them and watch clutter start to melt away.

Mystery on Loan Club meets:#338;From 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 19, the Mystery on Loan Club hosts C. J. Westwick, local author of "Emerald Enigma: A Bret Lamplighter Thriller."
Join the club for a revealing talk, including Westwick's experiences as a former police officer and the launch of his career into writing. There will be also be a sale and signing of his book.

Juggling, comedy, and magic:#338;At 11 a.m. Jan. 21, enjoy the day off from school with a cutting-edge performance of comedy, magic, fire eating and juggling with Rick Colen.
Colen has performed with the Ringling Brothers. Join the fun during this interactive show.

Preschool and Day Care Fair:#338;From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 28, representatives from local preschool and day care organizations will be available to talk with parents about their programs and facilities.
No registration is required.
Antique Appraisal Show:#338;At 6:30 p.m. Jan. 31, antique appraiser Karl Gates presents a lecture and conducts appraisal services at the Palatine Public Library.
Up to two items may be brought in for appraisal. All proceeds go to the Palatine Public Library Foundation.

Nightclub in the Afternoon:#338;At 3 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Palatine Public Library, Mary Anne Riehl of Nightclub in the Afternoon will perform an entertaining array of standards from the '20s, '30s, and '40s.
Light refreshments will be served.
Mother Daughter Book Club: The first Thursday and the first Monday of each month, the library offers a Mother Daughter Book Discussion. This group is open to girls in third through sixth grade and their mothers. Books are available at the library. Register online or call (847) 358-5881, ext. 132.
Baby Book Program: Stop by the readers assistance desk of the main library, the Freeman Road Branch or the Rand Road Branch and receive a free board book and informational packet for a new baby. This program, developed and funded by the Friends of the Palatine Public Library, encourages parents and children to visit the library early and develop a lifelong love of reading.
Homebound Services: Homebound Service is available for Palatine Public Library District residents who are unable to come to the library for 30 days or more and have no one to pick up materials for them. For more information, contact Gale Ree, at (847) 358-5881, ext. 112.
Pay fines online: Palatine Public Library District has announced participation in an Internet payment service that will be available to the citizens of Palatine.
E-Pay allows patrons to make payments over the Internet by MasterCard, American Express and Discover card. A transaction, or user fee, will be added to the payment amount for the convenience of the Internet service. The state and local governments who use this program do not receive any revenue from the convenience fee.
Payments are being accepted now and Palatine Public Library District invites citizens to visit www.palatinelibrary.org and follow the E-pay link to see how the payment service works. For details, call the circulation department at (847) 358-5881, ext. 125.
Wireless access available: The Palatine Public Library offers wireless, WiFi, access to the Internet for users with wireless-enabled laptop computers, tablet PCs or PDAs.
The library's network is open to all visitors, free of charge. No special encryption settings, user names or passwords are required. The library's Internet usage policies apply to all Internet access in the building.
