Floods illustrate wetlands issues
I want to write to thank our emergency workers and first responders for coming to the aid and protection of our community during the recent floods that damaged so many homes in the region. At times like these, we are grateful that our community comes together to protect one another.
It's too bad that we haven't done more to conserve open spaces and protect wetlands in our region to better accommodate floodwaters. It's important that our leaders have the foresight to see problems before they happen and work to address those issues. While we got more rain than ever before, the damage could have been much less if our elected officials had planned properly over the last several years. Unfortunately, our State Rep. Sid Mathias voted against funding for important measures that would have helped to lessen the damage.
