Highlights of latest 'Kids Count' report

The annual "Kids Count" report from the group Voices for Illinois Children examines the conditions facing the state's children. The findings include:

• High school graduation rates are about 93 percent for white and Asian students compared to 75 percent for black and Latino students.

• In 2007, almost half of all school districts contained children who spoke a primary language other than English.

• The number of uninsured children in Illinois fell more than two-thirds since 2000; only 7 percent are still uninsured.

• The number of Illinois charter schools increased by 77 percent since 2003; 80 percent of charter schools are in Chicago.
