COD student wins DuPage board seat in District 5
Tony Michelassi will be one of the youngest DuPage County Board members to ever hold the office.
With all 113 precincts reporting, unofficial results show the Democratic 23-year-old College of DuPage student was elected to the board with 32,004 votes. Republican incumbent James Healy received the most votes in the three-way race with 33,812. Republican Gerry Cassioppi trailed with 29,811.
Healy was the only incumbent running for an office in this district as longtime board member and chairman pro tem Robert Schroeder is retiring.
Michelassi called the victory a "dream come true."
"I'm pretty stunned," he said. "The first thing I want to do is figure out what committees I want to serve on. I'm thinking off technology, environmental and finance."
The district includes all or parts of Aurora, Naperville, Lisle and Warrenville.
