Trio charged in Elgin home invasion
Three men were charged Wednesday with a Sunday evening home invasion and burglary in Elgin that left a resident beaten.
Aaron L. Bruessard, 20, of the 100 block of Dunning Avenue, West Dundee, Ian Howell, 18, of the 300 block of Riverview Avenue, South Elgin, and William J. Jackson, 18, of the 800 block of Emerald Drive, Pingree Grove, were each charged in court with felony counts of home invasion and residential burglary, according to court records.
Howell also was charged with aggravated battery, records state.
If convicted, Bruessard and Jackson could spend 10 to 45 years in prison; Howell could spend 15 to 45 years in prison.
Elgin police said Wednesday afternoon a fourth man was charged in the home invasion and will appear in court Thursday. His identity was not released.
A police synopsis of the events said the owner of the home told officers Bruessard knocked on her door about 9:27 p.m. Sunday and asked to speak with her son. She knew Bruessard because he once lived next door, police said.
After she went upstairs and came down with her son, she said there were four or five men standing in her living room, reports state. The 6-foot-2, 290-pound Howell struck her son on the head with a replica gun causing a minor cut on the top of his head and then began beating him on the head and area around his eye, according to police.
The son was held down on the floor and one of the home invaders rifled through his pants pockets for change as his mother was restrained in a chair, police said. The group then left the home with the residents' 27-inch television and purse.
Howell and Jackson were arrested Monday at Jackson's home in Pingree Grove. Police said Howell had blood on the left sleeve of his jacket and told officers it happened while he was trying to help the victim to his feet.
Bond was set Wednesday at 10 percent of $200,000 for Howell and Jackson and 10 percent of $300,000 for Bruessard.
All three remained in custody late Wednesday with court dates on Feb. 20 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
