CTA train strikes and kills woman

Authorities say a Chicago Transit Authority rapid transit train has struck and killed a 25-year-old woman on the city's North Side.

CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski says the northbound Red Line train struck the woman Saturday evening on the tracks at the Jarvis station, forcing northbound Red Line service between Addison and Howard stations to be suspended for about an hour-and-a-half.

All service was restored by about 8 p.m.

Officer JoAnne Taylor says police were sent to the scene, which was being investigated as an apparent suicide.
