Elgin mom charged with leaving son in car in trouble again
An Elgin woman who was arrested on Jan. 21 on a child endangerment charge alleging she left her 3-year-old son in a car while she shopped is in trouble with the law again.
Maria Artemiza Iriqui-Perez, also known as Olganett Perea-Agron, 29, of the 400 block of Standish Street, was charged in court Thursday with two counts of possession of a fictitious identification card and one count of obstruction of justice, according to court records.
Around 4:45 p.m. Jan. 21, a woman flagged down police in a parking lot on the 300 block of South Randall Road after she found a small boy in a car seat locked in an SUV with the engine running and no keys in the ignition.
A woman who identified herself as Olganett Perea-Agron, 26, of the 400 block of Standish Street said she was the boy's mother and was shopping in a nearby store.
She posted a $100 bond and was released with a Feb. 19 court date in Elgin.
During the investigation of the case, she gave Elgin police two forms of identification for Perea-Agron, which were discovered to be fraudulent.
Iriqui-Perez told police she had purchased a fraudulent birth certificate and fraudulent Social Security card for $800, which she used to obtain an Illinois driver's license, police said.
She said she bought the two documents because she was afraid she would be deported back to Mexico. Elgin police say they learned that Iriqui-Perez had already been deported to Mexico in 1999.
Iriqui-Perez posted a $300 bond on her new charges but was not released from the Elgin lockup because Immigration and Customs Enforcement had ordered an immigration detainer placed on her.
She is scheduled to appear in court at the Kane County Judicial Center on Feb. 13.
