Lake County briefs
CLC tuition to stay same
The College of Lake County board of trustees this week voted to hold the line on tuition and fees for the next academic year, despite rising operating costs. Board Chairman Richard Anderson acknowledged that holding the line on tuition will force the college into "some belt-tightening" in the next fiscal year but said that "my colleagues and I believe this is the right thing to do." Tuition and fees for the 2009-2010 academic year, which begins in August, will remain at $95 per credit hour for in-district students, $206 per credit hour for out-of-district students and $277 for out-of-state students.
Read with the family
The Cook Memorial Public Library in Libertyville is hosting a special night for families from 6 to 7:30 p.m. March 6. After the library closes, storytellers, crafts, ice cream sundaes and reading nooks will be available for Family Reading Night. Research shows that children who are read to by their parents score higher on reading tests and are more likely to become lifelong readers, according to the library. The library is in downtown Libertyville, 413 N. Milwaukee Ave. Call (847) 362-2330 or visit www.cooklib.org.
Libertyville High School checks out OK
Libertyville High School officials reported nothing illegal was found during a periodic, routine police search of student lockers and the parking lot Wednesday morning. Police officers and dogs from several suburban departments conducted the sweep. Mary Todoric, spokeswoman for Libertyville-Vernon Hills Area High School District 128, said the occasional, random locker searches have taken place since 2002. Todoric said Wednesday's sweep was performed without disruption to the students' education at Libertyville High.
