Health officials caution safety in peanut recall

SPRINGFIELD -- Illinois health officials are reminding the public to keep up-to-date with the recall list of peanut products that are connected to a national salmonella outbreak.

More than 2,000 products have been recalled.

Illinois Department of Public Health Director Damen Arnold says consumers can call the Center for Disease Control's toll-free hot line 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The hot line number is 1-800-CDC-INFO (1-800-232-4636).

The outbreak has sickened 637 people in 44 states. State health officials say six of those cases have been in Illinois. The affected counties are, Fayette, Franklin, Lake, St. Clair, Will and Winnebago.

The ages of those who have fallen ill range from two to 73.
