South Barrington cops arrest two after car goes underwater
The car that ended up in a pond in South Barrington Tuesday night had sped off after police attempted to pull it over.
The 1998 Plymouth Breeze that ended up underwater was about to stopped by police around 8 p.m. for speeding near Bartlett Road and Beacon Hill Drive, South Barrington Deputy Police Chief Ray Cordell said. Instead the car sped away and went into a pond near Penny Road and Spring Creek Drive, police said.
Antuan Kerris, 20, and Mark R. Goodman, 19, both of Streamwood, were charged with resisting arrest, police said. The two ran from the pond after the car left the roadway and hit the water and before it started to submerge, police said.
Police would not provide street addresses for the men.
Authorities found Goodman near Bartlett Road and Route 72 a short time later, while Kerris was located later in Streamwood, Cordell said.
Kerris, who police said was behind the wheel, was cited for no insurance, no registration light and speeding, Cordell said, while Goodman was charged with possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia.
Another passenger, a 17-year-old female from Elgin, did not run off from the pond and was released without charges, Cordell also said.
Rescue divers and equipment were at the pond Wednesday night. They pulled the vacant car from the pond.
Kerris posted a $2,000 bond, while Goodman posted a $1,000 bond, Cordell said. The pair are due in Rolling Meadows court March 20.
