Antioch house suffers heavy damage in bedroom fire
An Antioch Township family has been forced out of their home by a Tuesday morning fire.
One person in the home on Pedersen Lane when the fire broke out in an upstairs bedroom, but quickly escaped and was not injured. Antioch and Fox Lake fire departments responded to the call about 10 a.m.
"There were flames and heavy smoke when we arrived on the scene," Antioch Fire Department spokesman Chris Lienhardt said. "Smoke was pouring down the staircase to the first floor."
Firefighters thought the flames might have gone through the ceiling and into the attic, and called for mutual aid from other fire departments and for extra tankers. There are no fire hydrants in the subdivision.
Leinhardt said the fire was knocked down quickly, and the heaviest damage was in the second floor bedroom. There was smoke damage throughout the 3,000-square-foot home.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation. Lienhardt estimated the fire caused at least $75,000 in damage.
