Motivational drummer coming to Elgin school

Fox River Country Day School will host Chris Lavidas, president of Breaking Grounds in Drumming, to share his passion and knowledge of blending drumming instruction with motivational inspiration to sixth- to eighth-grade students.

The forum will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday in the school gym, 1600 Dundee Ave., Elgin.

This forum supports the school's mission to educate the whole child. Students will have the opportunity for hands-on drumming combined with Lavidas' own brand of helping them set goals, overcome fears, build a positive team spirit and deal with change.

The drum is one of the most ancient instruments and has been used for healing, celebration, births, deaths, weddings, harvests, worship, rites of passage, divination and communicating tribe to tribe.

Breaking Grounds in Drumming was founded in 2004 by Lavidas, a 2001 Prospect Heights graduate, who was inspired by the potential that drumming had for healing and restorative therapy. The company continues to provide an inventive approach to motivate and inspire people through the art of drumming.

Fox River Country Day School serves children in preschool through eighth grade and has been in existence since 1913. It is known for its accelerated curriculum, character education, arts programs and wooded campus. For details, visit www.frcds.org.
