Griffin would create green belt in Dundee
As I've moved west in three different homes during my 20 years here, I've felt less connected to the heart of town, including the bike paths and neighborhoods with mature trees that I used to enjoy walking through. Fortunately, we have a new candidate for Dundee Township Supervisor who would like to instill that feeling of connection to residents: Pam Griffin.
Acres of forest preserve land south of my new subdivision could allow bike and walking paths to safer areas to cross Sleepy Hollow Road, but the township office told me that it was a far-off hope that won't get the funding for years to come.
However, current Supervisor Sue Harney can vote herself a 30-percent pay increase, and $600,000 can be spent on a little-known bird sanctuary in Sleepy Hollow. This nine-year-old project still isn't user-friendly, even if that is the intention: Parking for it might hold four to five cars.
Millions have been spent on open space projects that are taking years to make accessible to the taxpayers, who are given almost no information about their availability.
Pam Griffin would like to change that by creating a "green belt" to connect open spaces, and coordinate efforts of the different government entities, such as the park district and forest preserve, to use taxpayer monies more effectively, and in a timelier manner than has been done in the past. I have voted early, and my vote for supervisor went to Pam Griffin.
