Cancer walk made special by all of you

To the editor: Aug. 10-12 I walked in the Susan G. Komen three-day Breast Cancer Walk. We walked 60 miles through many of the Northwest suburbs, ending at Montrose Harbor.

It was an incredible experience. One of the most amazing things was the support of people along the route. You deserve a big THANK YOU! I doubt you know how much we appreciated what you did for us. There were so many acts of kindness. The people left sprinklers running to cool us off, brought down coolers of ice and water to the sidewalk, handed out freeze pops, popsicles and candy.

One house made a huge pink ribbon of balloons and their son stood there taking pictures of us with our cameras. They ran extension cords to put misting fans out and stood along the sidewalks offering to spritz us. They honked and clapped and cheered us along and told us thank you for doing this.

You made us feel special, like we really were making a difference when we were hot, tired and hurting. You kept us inspired and going. The crews from the walk and police were also great, helping, encouraging and watching out for our safety.

But one of the greatest impacts was how wonderful the people who just came out to support us were. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
