It's a shame to read about the Arizona
After reading the article "Pennies for Pearl Harbor" in the Daily Herald on Dec. 12, I became angry that our government would allow such a historic monument like the Arizona to deteriorate so badly and not fund any money to preserve it. And that it takes a high school and the good citizens in Gurnee to try to raise money to correct the problem so a piece of history is not lost forever.
How can our government allow this to happen? It's a disgrace to the memory of the brave men and women who lost their lives when our country was attacked by Japan on Dec. 7, 1941.
Maybe they feel it is not an important issue because there are not many World War II vets left in the world and won't get many complaints.
My father was in WW II and I am proud of the sacrifice he made for our country along with my uncle and special friends.
Maybe if we could not fund this worthless war in Iraq for two hours there would be enough money to preserve Pearl Harbor. But that is just a dream, so I am going to write to senators Durbin, Obama, Melissa Bean and others and I hope every one will do the same and express our displeasure on this.
To the people of Gurnee and the schools trying to raise money for this cause, thank you for having enough brains to know and care what is important to our American history and trying to preserve it. even if the politicians don't. Please let me know where I can send donations.
