Learn about teen driver laws
Due to the success of the Parent-Teen Driver Summit in November and in response to numerous requests from residents, Wheeling Police and Wheeling High School will be offering a second chance for parents and teen drivers to learn about new teen driver laws that went into effect Jan. 1. A second summit has been scheduled to take place beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Wheeling Village Hall Council Chambers in the Municipal Complex at 255 W. Dundee Road.
The Wheeling Police Department along with the Wheeling High School Driver Education Department and the school's SADD chapter will co-host this event to explain the new legislation and answer any questions parents and teen drivers have regarding the laws. With these laws in effect, Illinois is expected to have the most comprehensive and restrictive teen driver laws in the nation.
Representatives from the Secretary of State's Office and the Allstate Foundation will also participate in the event. Topics to be discussed at the summit include new graduated permit and license periods for teens, new curfew restrictions on teen drivers licenses, expanded restrictions regarding passengers and safety belt requirements for teens as well as information about common teen driving mistakes, common causes of teen crashes and insurance requirements.
To reserve a space at this seminar, call Sgt. Peter Panagakis, Wheeling Police Traffic Unit, at (847) 459-2649.
