Hey seniors, soup's on for Valentine's Day

Senior Services invites all Elgin area seniors to their eighth annual Valentine's Day "Soup For Seniors" on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at their 101 S. Grove Ave. location in downtown Elgin.

Eight years ago the concept of "Soup for Seniors" was formed through the Elgin Senior Provider Network. Six local ESPN members along with Provena St. Joseph Hospital created a Valentine's Day Celebration and provided hot soup, beverages and desserts simultaneously across the Elgin area. Due to the success of the program, Senior Services Advisory Council members have continued this for the past eight years. They normal feed nearly 100 seniors during this 2-1/2-hour event.

The menu consists of traditional homemade soups with warm buttered cornbread, luncheon salad and special Valentine's Day desserts. Lunch will be available from noon until 2:30 p.m.

This year, Alex Babiy will provide live entertainment. There also will be raffle and door prizes and the annual "Awarding of King & Queen of the Day." Donations for this event will be $3 for Senior Services members; and $5 for nonmembers.
