Abreu agrees to 1-year deal with Angels

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The Los Angeles Angels have agreed to a one-year contract with outfielder Bobby Abreu, adding some pop to a lineup that struggled scoring runs last season.

The terms of the deal announced Thursday were not disclosed. According to several media outlets, Abreu will earn a base salary of $5 million with a chance to push it above $6 million based on incentives.

The 34-year-old right-fielder batted .296 with 100 RBIs and 20 homers for the New York Yankees last season. He joins an Angels outfield-designated hitter rotation that includes Torii Hunter, Vladimir Guerrero, Juan Rivera and Gary Matthews Jr.

Abreu filed for free agency in November and was believed to be seeking a three-year deal worth $48 million.
