Reputed Mafia enforcer arrested in Lincolnshire

Reputed mafia member Mario Rainone could be part of a group of people responsible for a string of residential burglaries across the suburbs, police said Sunday.

Rainone, whose last known address is in Bloomingdale, was arrested by Lincolnshire police Saturday and charged with one count of residential burglary. He has been the subject of an ongoing investigation by several area departments after officials noticed similarities in the crimes and pooled their resources, said Lincolnshire police Detective John-Erik Anderson.

Additional charges are possible, Anderson said. The investigation into the burglaries continues, he said, and additional arrests also are possible.

Rainone, 54, is charged in the Feb. 12 burglary of a home on Trafalgar Square in Lincolnshire. He is being held on $500,000 bond in the Lake County jail, and is next due in court on Feb. 17.

Charged in the same crime is Vincent T. Forliano, 39, with a last known address in Addison. Forliano also is being held on $500,000 bond and is set to appear in court on Feb. 20.

He's being held in Lake County jail on $500,000 bond. In 1992, Rainone was sentenced to 17½ years in prison after he pleaded guilty to extortion and racketeering. He was released in 2006.
