Township leader earns their thanks
Many thanks to Algonquin Township Road Commissioner Robert Miller for his prompt and caring assistance to our community. When we learned the Fox River was forecast to rise to levels not seen in over 20 years, we realized that in order to protect our homes, we would need to take immediate action and sandbag our properties.
We called Algonquin Township at about 8:30 a.m. Aug. 23. By 9 a.m., Miller visited us to assess the situation and mark the points in the neighborhood where his crew should place loads of sand for the residents to use.
The first loads of sand arrived by 9:30 a.m. While our neighborhood pulled together to fill and place sand bags, Miller made it clear that more sand was available and would be delivered should it be needed. We placed two additional calls for sand on Friday and ultimately, received enough sand and bags to protect our nine homes.
These deliveries enabled our neighborhood to minimize damage to our basements and homes. Although all of Eastbend was flooded, the sandbags held the water away from the homes and prevented damage.
The residents of Haeger's Bend wish to extend sincere thanks and gratitude to Commissioner Robert Miller and his team. Without them, many of us would have suffered extensive damage and faced months of cleanup at considerable expense and hardship.
