Autopsy shows Danville teens drowned in pond

DANVILLE -- Autopsies show that two eastern Illinois boys whose bodies were found in a frozen retention pond drowned.

Vermilion County Coroner Peggy Johnson says no injuries or other signs of trauma were found on the bodies of 14-year-old Lorel L. Harden and 13-year-old Deirra Shon Phillips. Johnson released the autopsy results Wednesday.

County Sheriffs Department divers found the boys' bodies in a detention pond in Danville Tuesday morning. The town is about 45 miles east of Champaign.

The boys had been missing since December.

Police say witnesses saw the two playing on the frozen pond around the time they were reported missing.

One of the bodies surfaced this week after some of the ice melted.
