Man charged in Arlington Heights stabbing
Alejandro Suarez walked away from trouble once on Sunday night. Then, authorities allege, he walked right back into it.
Cook County sheriff's police charged Suarez with four counts of aggravated battery in a stabbing that took place over the weekend in an apartment in the 2400 block of Randall Road in Palatine Township.
On Sunday night, 20-year-old Suarez went to the home of Gonzalo Arriano, 24, and Santiago Leyva, 28, Assistant State's Attorney Mike Gerber said at Suarez's bond hearing Tuesday before Judge Kay Hanlon.
The men argued. Arriano and Leyva asked Suarez to leave.
He did. But, Gerber said, Suarez then went back to his apartment in an adjacent building and returned to Arriano and Leyva's apartment with an 8-inch knife.
Suarez brandished the weapon at the two victims before stabbing Arriano in the upper stomach and Leyva in the arm, Gerber said. Suarez was also injured in the altercation.
Suarez has an outstanding warrant from Lake County for driving under the influence, said Gerber, who informed the court that the defendant stated to police that he is not in the United States legally. Hanlon set Suarez's bond at $150,000.
She also ordered Suarez have no contact with the victims if he posts bail. If convicted, he faces two to five years in prison.
