Lake effect snow advisory in Cook, Lake counties
A lake-effect snow advisory is in effect for Lake and Cook counties, where officials believe between 1- and 4-inches of snow could fall until 3 p.m. today.
Snow is expected to hit just as the morning's rush hour gets under way, working its way through the city and to the southern areas of Cook County between 5 and 7 a.m.
At 6 a.m., hints of the impending snow began falling, which could make the morning rush hour a little slippery.
However, meteorologists warn that, because it's lake effect snow, determining the amount of snowfall that could hit the ground is often tricky and could change depending on wind direction.
The brunt of the impending storm should miss Illinois, though, as about 18-inches of snow is expected to fall in Porter County, Ind., and about 12-inches is expected in Lake County, Ind.
