DVDs released this week

These DVDs were released this week:

"Juno"

Ellen Page was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her terrific performance as a 16-year-old pregnant teenager who decides to keep her child. She has the support of her parents and boyfriend, while finding the perfect family to adopt the child. It is a well-written film that has wonderful characters and a lot of heart. Diablo Cody won the Oscar for her original screenplay.

"Lars and the Real Girl"

Lars Lindstrom (Ryan Gosling) is a socially awkward misfit who spends his nights alone in his apartment. He orders a life-size doll and introduces her to his family as his girlfriend. He treats her like a real woman, and everyone goes along with it. We learn about Lars' background as the film shifts from comedy to being serious. Gosling and the supporting cast pull off this offbeat film.

"Alien Vs. Predator: Requiem" This is the second movie in the series, and this time a space ship crashes in Colorado with a Predator/Alien hybrid along with a small army on board. They attack everyone in their way, and a Predator is dispatched to Earth to take out them out. Some scenes are hard to watch as we wait for the final confrontation.

"Before the Devil Knows You're Dead"

Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Ethan Hawke are brothers who decide to rob their parents and split the cash. It doesn't go as planned, and violence occurs. Both of them deal with their consciences in different ways, as the film tells its story from different points of view. Also starring Marisa Tomei as the love interest, but of which brother?
