Indescrtible captures Matron
Courtlandt Farms' Indescribable made a three-wide rally into the stretch, overtook Leah's Secret in the vicinity of the furlong marker and pulled away to win Monday's Grade III $150,000 Arlington Matron Handicap by a half length at Arlington Park.
Jeremy Rose rode the 4-year-old Pleasant Tap filly who went the mile and an eight over Polytrack in 1:49.82. The Matron was her third win in five starts over synthetic courses and her fourth win in 12 starts overall. She earned $88,200 to push her bankroll to $219,802.
"The mile and an eighth helps our filly quite a bit," Rose said. "My filly jumped into the bit at the eighth pole, and I knew from there we'd get her (Leah's Secret). Everything set up like I thought it would. She beat a couple of real nice horses in there."
Tessa Blue, the slight 2-1 favorite, broke alertly from the outside and quickly cut over to the inside on the first turn while taking the field through leisurely fractions of 25.35 seconds for the quarter, 49.47 seconds for the half and 1:13.13 for three quarters of a mile.
Leah's Secret scooted through on the rail on the second turn to take the lead turning for home and had a couple of length advantage on Indescribable with an eighth of mile to go but was unable to hold off the winner.
Leah's Secret was 7 lengths clear of third-place finisher Lady Carlock. Angel Smoke, Stop a Train, Tessa Blue and Awesome Ashley completed the order of finish.
Second choice in wagering, also at odds of 2-1, Indescribable paid $6, $3.20 and $2.60. Leah's Secret returned $3.60 and $2.60, while Lady Carlock paid $5.80 to show.
