Salvation Army to open in Carpentersville

The Salvation Army will open a service center in Carpentersville next week, offering local residents educational programs, basic emergency assistance and a nutritional program for seniors.

The educational programs will include adult basic literacy classes and child tutoring, while basic need assistance will offer food, clothing, financial aid for rent and utilities.

The senior nutrition program will provide lunch and a meal delivery program.

Major Ken Nicolai of the Elgin Salvation Army will oversee the Carpentersville location.

"The Carpentersville Service Center has been in the works for several years," Nicolai said. "Many Carpentersville residents have been requesting assistance from Elgin-area agencies who already have more than they can handle in terms of client loads. Our assessment a few years back showed a great need for the disadvantaged in the Carpentersville area."

The center, located in the Meadowdale Mall at 150 S. Kennedy Drive, will open at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
