Writer wrong on liberals' patriotism
On Jan. 17 appeared yet another letter from Right Wing World titled, "Where are liberals in our military?" impugning again the patriotism of liberals.
Max Cleland and Tammy Duckworth sacrificed limbs in our country's military service in two different wars. The much maligned John Kerry actually was in combat in Vietnam while George W. Bush was stateside serving in the National Guard to avoid being drafted into active duty. "Five Deferment Dick" Cheney refused to serve his country because he "had other priorities."
I have never seen this writer criticize the patriotism of those men.
If liberals never serve in the military, then why did people in the military contribute to the Obama campaign by a margin of 6-1? Why, when Iraq war veterans run for political office, do most of them run as Democrats?
Maybe Skaritka should be asking why right-wing loudmouths such as Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly, Coulter and Savage talk a good game about being tough and patriotic, but none of them were patriotic enough to enlist themselves.
Also, in his next letter, I would like Skaritka to let us know if he has ever backed up his patriotism through military service of his own or does he, like most conservatives, save that job for someone else to do.
