Hynes to formally enter governor race today
Illinois Comptroller Dan Hynes is set to formally enter the governor's race by laying out some of his policy proposals.
He's staking out his positions in a Democratic primary contest that will pit him against Gov. Pat Quinn in February.
Hynes will make his formal announcement Wednesday at events in Chicago and Springfield.
The three-term comptroller is a well-known name in Chicago politics. His father, Thomas Hynes, is a former Illinois Senate president and former Cook County assessor.
Dan Hynes also ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic nomination to the U.S. Senate seat that President Barack Obama won in 2004.
