Carpentersville mom, son busted on coke charges
A Carpentersville mother and her son were arrested Thursday morning after an Illinois Department of Corrections parole agent spotted cocaine in their home, police said.
Cynthia L. West, 47, and her son, Brandon C. West, 22, both of the 400 block of Maple Lane, were each charged with possession of a controlled substance, police said.
Carpentersville police were called at 9:30 a.m. Thursday by an state corrections agent who was conducting a follow-up visit with parolee Brandon West.
The agent reported seeing a white powdery substance on a bed and a suspicious looking plastic bag with more of the white powder inside. Police located the cocaine on Brandon's bed in the basement along with six torn corners of plastic bags. police said.
A urine test conducted in the home indicated Brandon had cocaine in his system, police said.
Cynthia West said the plastic bag containing 3.9 grams of cocaine that police found on a computer desk in the basement belonged to her and was for her own personal use, police said.
The husband of Cynthia West posted a $1,000 bond for her Friday morning and she was released from custody. Brandon West was taken to the Kane County jail with a $1,000 bond.
Both Cynthia and Brandon West are scheduled to appear at the Kane County Judicial Center on March 10.
