Chicago Red Stars release '09 schedule

The Red Stars, Chicago's entry into the new Women's Professional Soccer league, Friday unveiled their 2009 schedule, which features 10 home games at Toyota Park in Bridgeview.

The home schedule consists of five Sunday evening matches, four Saturday night games and one Wednesday night contest, Red Stars general manager Marcia McDermott announced.

"Today is an extremely exciting day for the Chicago Red Stars and all fans of Women's Professional Soccer," said McDermott.

Highlighting the home schedule will be three nationally televised games on Fox Soccer Channel, which will include the home opener on April 19, a Mother's Day match on May 10, and the team's only visit from the Los Angeles Sol, featuring Marta, the Brazilian sensation and three-time FIFA Player of the Year, on Aug. 2.

"We are delighted with our schedule, especially the first half of it," said Chicago head coach Emma Hayes. "With five of our first seven games at home before all of our fans, we couldn't have asked for a more amicable start to the season."
