Weather was a factor in Mundelein car crash

A mother and three children were hospitalized at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville after a minivan crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a rental truck about 6:42 p.m. Wednesday. The accident occurred on Route 176 just east of the entrance to Carmel High School in Mundelein.

According to Mundelein police, the woman was traveling east on Route 176 when she lost control of her minivan and veered into westbound traffic, striking the truck which was westbound. The truck driver was not injured. Both vehicles had to be towed.

Police said the woman driving the minivan was cited for driving too fast for conditions, violating child restraint safety laws and driving without insurance.

The names were not available. Police said the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. Police also said conditions were slippery and weather was a factor.
