Quinn might reopen 7 closed state parks

SPRINGFIELD -- Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn is hinting that he'll soon reopen seven closed state parks.

Quinn told reporters Wednesday that he'll have an announcement Thursday at the state Department of Natural Resources. And he says state park fans will "like what we have to say."

Quinn's predecessor, Rod Blagojevich, closed seven state parks and a dozen historic sites last fall in a budget-cutting move.

When Quinn took the place of the ejected Blagojevich, he promised to reopen the parks.

Despite a budget deficit of $9 billion or more, Quinn says people need state parks open for recreation because tight finances will limit vacations.
