Health centers get $15.2 mil in stimulus funds

Community health centers in Illinois will get nearly $15.2 million in grant funding through the national stimulus program.

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin said in a statement Friday that 36 centers will use the money to make a number of changes, including expanding their hours and the services they provide.

Durbin says the support for health centers will create jobs in low-income areas.

The grants are part of $338 million that is being distributed to 1,128 health centers nationwide.

The biggest Illinois award -- $2.7 million -- goes to Access Community Health Network in Chicago. Next up is $870,000 for Aunt Martha's Youth Service Center Inc. in Chicago Heights.
