'He's Just Not That Into You': Sweet ending or sellout?

Some of my guy friends miss the point of the new romantic comedy "He's Just Not That Into You." They're particularly irked by the scene where confirmed bachelor Ben Affleck "caves" by asking longtime girlfriend Jennifer Aniston to marry him. They think he's a sellout for a happy ending. Here's what really happened. Jen loves Ben so much, she sacrifices her lifelong dream of a wedding to make him happy. In turn, Ben sacrifices his desire to remain single by popping the question to make her happy. Each gives up something personally important for the sake of the other. O. Henry would love this part of the movie. So do I. Go to hesjustnotthatintoyoumovie.com and watch the hilarious "10 Chick Flick Cliches Not Found in This Movie."

Still playing at local theaters.

'Madea Goes to Jail'

Tyler Perry's comedy opens without press screenings. One of his actors, Oscar nominee Viola Davis, told me, "Tyler Perry doesn't care what critics say." (See interview in this section.) If that's true, why is he so afraid to show his movies to them?

Opens today.

'Read After My Death'

Morgan Dews' doc "Must Read After My Death" becomes the first movie to open simultaneously in theaters (only in New York and L.A.) and online as a streaming feature. Using recordings, photographs and home movies made by his grandmother Allis, Dews constructs a portrait of an American family silently screaming under a facade of placid normalcy during the 1960s. $2.99 buys a three-day, unlimited ticket for streaming online.

The future starts at 9 a.m. today on giganticdigital.com.
