Why no mention of Albert Emmerich?

To the editor: The Buffalo Grove Park District is failing in its Memorial Day observance.

On Memorial Day I passed Emmerich Park on the way to St. Mary Church for a Memorial Day Mass in the cemetery, to remember and honor all service personnel. The Mass was said especially in memory of Private First Class Albert Emmerich, killed in action on Saipan Island in 1944, a member of St. Mary and resident of Buffalo Grove.

In the park named after him, there was no flag flying. The park district has its headquarters at this site, but could not put up a flag of the United States.

What an example for the young people who were attending the baseball games taking place in the park that day. You would think the village would honor its own.
