Gang leader gets 26 years

A former Aurora street gang leader who has pleaded guilty to two separate murders has been sentenced to 26 years in prison. Roman Lucio, 26, entered into a negotiated plea agreement with Kane County prosecutors before pleading guilty Thursday before Judge Grant Wegner. According to prosecutors, Lucio, who was the former head of the Aurora Latin Kings, participated in the September 2005 beating death of Jorge Caro and the December 2000 shooting death of 20-year-old Marine Private Jonathan J. Suarez in an Aurora parking lot. In the Caro slaying, Lucio admitted he was among a group of four gang members who attacked Caro after Caro, who was not a gang member, used gang signals.
