Kaneville-Randall intersection tops for crashes in Geneva

No surprise: The intersection of Kaneville/Keslinger Road with Randall Road remains the No. 1 site for accidents in Geneva, according to an annual report released this week.

The good news is accidents are decreasing in number. There were 38 reported accidents there in 2008, compared to 48 in 2007 and 64 in 2006.

Randall is, of course, a busy, four-lane, high-speed thoroughfare through the Tri-Cities, with the Meijer and Lowes stores in St. Charles and the Geneva Commons mall not far to the north of the intersection. And Delnor Hospital, another major traffic-generator, is right on the corner.

The No. 2 spot changed, with the intersection of Fargo Boulevard and Randall Road moving up from No. 4. (It's where the city's traffic safety specialist, who put together the report, was injured as a passenger in an August crash last year. The city-owned car he was riding in was hit by somebody making a left turn on a yellow light.)

Randall and Williamsburg Avenue, which is between Delnor and Geneva Commons, is No. 3, up from No. 5. Fabyan Parkway and Kirk Road is fourth, Route 38 and Kirk dropped to fifth, Routes 31 and 38 in downtown is sixth, Fabyan and Route 25 is seventh, Route 38 and Third downtown is eighth.

Overall, intersection-related accidents declined to 438 in 2008 from 576 in 2007. However, there were 32 more accidents in January 2009 than January 2008.
