No bond for pair charged in Elgin shooting death

Two Elgin gang members charged in the murder of a 22-year-old Rochelle woman were ordered jailed with no bond Monday morning.

Raul Perez-Gonzalez, 18, of the 900 block of Jefferson Street, and Tony Rosalez, 18, of the 400 block of Sherman Avenue, have been charged with two counts of first-degree murder each in Friday evening's shooting of 22-year-old Paola Rodriguez.

Rodriguez died Saturday after she was taken to Sherman Hospital.

Elgin police said there was a verbal confrontation between two rival Elgin street gang members in the parking lot of a business on Bluff City Boulevard, gang signs were flashed and a white Ford Expedition followed Rodriguez's vehicle.

Rodriguez was shot in the head on the 600 block of Raymond Street by a single bullet fired from a white Ford Expedition about 9:52 p.m. Friday, police said.

Rosalez, who was in the Expedition, pulled a handgun from his waistband and fired the shot at the Rodriguez car at the urging of another gang member who was sitting in the back seat, according to court records.

Perez-Gonzalez, the driver of the SUV, and the third gang member dropped off Rosalez in the area of Arlington and Sherman avenues and drove to a car wash in Bloomingdale where they washed the Expedition's exterior and removed traces of gunshot residue from the interior, according to court records.

Consequently, Raul Perez-Gonzalez was charged with obstruction of justice, police said.

Police are not saying whether the third gang member is in custody, but they did say he is a person of interest.

In deciding against setting bond for the two teens, Judge John Noverini said they were deemed "a danger to the community."

Both Rosales and Perez-Gonzalez are scheduled to appear at the Kane County Judicial Center on Feb. 13.
