Sligting not considerate to business issues

In 2008 current Elgin City Council candidate Charlene Sligting in her role as president of SWAN (South West Area Neighbors) supported the Walnut Avenue bike path. What she was not supportive of was the neighborhood businesses affected by the removal of customer parking on the south side of Walnut in the Walnut-Wilcox Avenues NB (Neighborhood Business) District.

She told one merchant nothing could be done about restoring the parking. Yet six weeks later several of the merchants were able to convince the city to restore parking.

Sligting as well as area individuals should have considered the effect this questionable bike path would have had on their small businesses, the backbone of any community.
