Illinois State hires Don Shula's grandson
NORMAL - Illinois State's football team has hired the grandson of Hall of Famer Don Shula as an offensive assistant.
Dan Shula is coming off a two-year graduate assistantship at Miami. He spent the 2006 season at Alabama as a graduate assistant coach.
Shula is the grandson of Hall of Famer Don Shula, who coached the Baltimore Colts and Miami Dolphins. Dan Shula's father, David Shula, was head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals from 1992 to 1996.
Dan Shula was a three-year letterwinner at quarterback for Dartmouth, where he appeared in 15 games. He earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Dartmouth in 2006.
Illinois State head coach Brock Spack says Dan Shula brings "a cerebral approach to the game" and will help the team's recruiting efforts.
