AT&T expands U-verse service

HOFFMAN ESTATE -- AT&T Inc. said Monday it created more than 1,400 jobs since last summer related to the launch and rollout of AT&T U-verse TV in Illinois. AT&T started investing more than $1.3 billion over several years in its Illinois wireline network, including fiber upgrades, further broadband deployment and Internet-based technologies to bring new services to subscribers. AT&T also said last week it intended to eliminate about 4,600 jobs nationwide, but a corporate spokesman declined to say how many are affected in this region.
