Bond is denied for stabbing suspect

A Chicago man charged in the Sunday stabbing death of a 25-year-old Prospect High School graduate waived his right to a bond hearing Tuesday afternoon -- landing him in jail without bail for now.

Patrick Ford, 25, of 1043 W. Grace St. is due back in court Sept. 7 in connection with the murder of Dana E. Mangi.

He could request another bond hearing in the future.

Chicago police said Ford confessed to killing Mangi, an Arlington Heights woman found dead in his apartment. He'd summoned police there around 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police said the two knew each other, but have not offered a motive for the crime.

According to court records, Ford has no prior criminal history in Cook County.

Mangi was a 2000 graduate of Prospect High, where she was on the honor roll, named an Illinois State Scholar and involved in various activities.

She also was a 2004 graduate of Loyola University in Chicago, where she was on the dean's list throughout her career, majoring in communications and pre-veterinary studies.

Visitation for Mangi is set for 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Oehler Funeral Home, 2000 E. Northwest Hwy. in Arlington Heights. Prayers will be said at 9:15 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. A 10 a.m. Mass is scheduled at St. James Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Road in Arlington Heights. Entombment will be in All Saints Mausoleum in Des Plaines.
