Oprah sued by ex-girls school headmistress

PHILADELPHIA -- The ex-headmistress of Oprah Winfrey's school for girls in South Africa is suing the Chicago-based talk show host for defamation.

Nomvuyo Mzamane's lawsuit was filed in Philadelphia. It claims that Winfrey falsely suggested that Mzamane knew about the alleged abuse by an employee and tried to cover it up.

The lawsuit filed Friday seeks more than $250,000 on five defamation and related counts from Winfrey and her production company.

Mzamane formerly worked at a Quaker school in Philadelphia. She says she's returned to the city but can't find work.

A Winfrey spokeswoman says the company hasn't seen the lawsuit and isn't commenting.
