Kids invited to help with Great Backyard Bird Count
Citizens for Conservation's Youth Education Committee will participate in the 2016 Great Backyard Bird Count from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13.
The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual event that connects bird watchers of all ages to count birds, creating a real-time snapshot of where birds are all across the world.
The group will meet at CFC's office, 459 W. Hwy. 22, Lake Barrington, and will carpool to a nearby Habitat Corridors home that has a conservation easement. Participants will discuss how to identify birds and will learn about the history of the bird count.
They'll also hike a trail to count birds, observe birds at feeders, and then head indoors to compile their data and make feeders to help birds throughout the winter. Each child will receive a copy of Audubon Adventures magazine, provided by Prairie Woods Audubon.
The class is open to children ages 4 and older. Parents are welcome to attend. CFC members are free; nonmembers pay $5 for the first child and $1 for each additional child.

Bring binoculars if you have them, wear warm and comfortable foot gear and dress for the weather.
