Olympic gymnast Shannon Miller to visit Palatine

Limber tots and stiff adults alike will come face-to-face with an Olympic icon.

Decorated gymnast Shannon Miller is coming to the Buehler YMCA in Palatine at 8:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, to sign autographs for members.

Miller led the Magnificent Seven gymnastics team (remember an injured Kerri Strug sticking her vault landing?) to Olympic gold at the 1996 Atlanta Games. Overall, the 31-year-old Missouri native won seven Olympic and nine World Championship medals in her career.

Miller will be in town to promote the Tyson American Cup Feb. 21 at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates. The field of gymnasts appearing at the international competition has yet to be announced, but past performers include Miller, Nastia Liukin, Shawn Johnson and Paul Hamm.
