Governor proud of Illinois champion spellers

Two Northwest suburban students were among the champion Illinois spellers recognized by Gov. Patrick Quinn recently at a ceremony at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library in Springfield.

Andrew Napora of Thomas Middle School in Arlington Heights and Rohan Dasika of Aptakisic Junior High in Buffalo Grove were among the 18 students Quinn congratulated for qualifying and competing in the 82nd annual Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C., and six fingerspelling champions for competing in the 12th annual Fingerspelling Bee hosted by the Illinois Hard of Hearing Commission.

"It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to qualify for the national spelling bee," Quinn said. "I salute these students and the parents and teachers who supported and encouraged them along the way."
