Elgin man killed in hit-and-run I-55

A 32-year-old Elgin man was the apparent victim of a fatal hit-and-run Tuesday morning on Interstate 55 near Joliet.

Authorities were called at 1:33 a.m. to the northbound lanes of I-55, south of Arsenal Road, where they found the man lying in the road.

Daniel A. Reyes was pronounced dead a short time later.

Reyes' 2000 Jeep was on the shoulder.

Two motorists stopped after striking him.

The first vehicle to hit the man did not stop, said District 5 Illinois State Police Master Sgt. John Rattigan.

"He was struck numerous times," Rattigan said. "We don't know why he was out of his vehicle."

The Will County coroner's office preformed autopsy with the preliminary cause of death being multiple blunt force trauma.
