Arrest made in Hoffman Estates repo shooting

The man Hoffman Estates police say used a gun to threaten three people as they tried to repossess his car turned himself Monday morning.

Ronnie Kindred, 42, of the 1900 block of Brighton Lane in Hoffman Estates, was arrested around 9:35 a.m. at the police station after arriving there with an attorney, Hoffman Estates Police Lt. Rich Russo said.

Police had been searching for Kindred. A judge issued a warrant for his arrest Friday, charging him with aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Police said that around 8:45 p.m. Jan. 12, Kindred pointed a revolver at one of three repossession company representatives as they attempted to tow away an Isuzu SUV from Kindred's residence.

Kindred demanded at gunpoint that the car be released, police said. The repo man instead drove away in the tow truck with the SUV attached.

The two men and woman who work for a Palatine-based repossession company told police they saw Kindred aim the gun at them and then heard five or six gunshots.

Russo said on occasion his department will hear of verbal threats against repossession company workers, but this was the first time a firearm was involved.

He added that repossession company workers are asked to notify police of their pending actions before going out to a site so police know the workers aren't trying to steal anything.

Kindred is to appear in bond court Tuesday in Rolling Meadows, Russo said. He remains in police custody, and Friday's warrant came with a $300,000 bond.
