Cops: Elgin teen stole cell phone from handicapped woman

An Elgin teenager was arrested Wednesday for the theft of a cell phone from a handicapped woman on Jan. 4 and the burglary of a computer three days later.

Anthony B. Jackson, 19, whose last known address was on the 300 block of Hubbard Street in Elgin, was charged Friday with theft and residential burglary, police said.

Police said that after a 47-year-old handicapped woman allowed Jackson to use her cell phone on Jan. 4, he returned to her apartment on Union Street, snatched the phone from her and ran off.

The victim told police her relatives had purchased the phone for her to use for emergencies.

During questioning, Jackson also admitted he broke into a home on the 400 block of Morgan Street on Jan. 7 where he stole a red Gateway computer, police said.

Jackson was unable to post a $500 bond Friday and was taken to the Kane County jail.

His next court date is scheduled for Feb. 9 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
