Start your engines for Elgin car show

After many years of wanting to do a car show in Elgin, the Downtown Neighborhood Association finally took the plunge and organized the 2007 Downtown Elgin Car & AFV Show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 8 in the Civic Parking Lot at the corner of Douglas and Highland avenues.

There will be a ribbon cutting with city officials at 10:30 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Sponsored by the Chicago Area Clean Cities Organization and the American Lung Association, along with supporting sponsors Elgin Jewelers and Keeney's Sporting Goods & PK Antiques, the show will feature cars from various clubs and individuals. Clubs include the Bare Bones Car Club of Elgin, the Fox Valley Model T Club, the Fox Valley Electric Automobile Association, the Prius Owners Group and more.

The show will give visitors an opportunity to see great examples of antique cars, as well as hot rods and custom jobs. Also in attendance will be vehicles under the alternative fuel banner; battery-powered electricity, bio-diesel, veggie oil, E-85, natural gas and propane. Non-profit organizations supporting these fuel types will also be on hand to answer questions.

If you or your car club are interested in displaying your car(s) at the 2007 Downtown Elgin Car & AFV Show, call (847) 488-1456. There is no entrance fee, but your insurance card in needed. To get an application for a car-related vendor booth, visit www.downtownelgin.org.
